Romanesque Architecture
Construction in the 11th and 12th centuries was the number one priority. The two most constructed buildings were the church and the castle. The castles were great structures, but the churches were magnificent. In the 11th and 12th centuries the churches were all built according to the Romanesque style.
The Romanesque style church consisted of rectangular bases, long round vaulted ceilings called barrel vaults and massive pillars. (Spielvogel, 166-267). The Romanesque style church was heavy and dimly light because there was a lack of space to install windows due to the vast number of support pillars.
