The Revival of Roman Law
Over the years the universities began to teach or at least overview the works of Justinian, namely the Corpus Iuris Civilis. Eventually, however, the law professors had to start elaborating on the actual workings of the Roman Law, and also started making commentaries on Justinian's legal works and those works were, over time, placed into one commentary, explaining everything one needs to know about law, called the ordinary gloss.
The rediscovered Roman law was widely accepted by westerners because it disagreed wit hand occasionally prohibited some Germanic customs or laws. This, in turn, organized the west and was therefor readily accepted by the Europeans.
The teaching of law to college students began to have a great effect on the European society as the students started doing things like becoming a lawyer, a councilor or a scribe. This had a profound effect on the society by slowly outcasting the old Germanic ordeal process and in its place invented a system of comparing and analyzing evidence to properly judge a criminal.
